2014 Rugby League World Cup
Halfway through the first game and after a slow start the aussies are up 18-10
The Poms came out harder and more settled and scored the first two tries, but now Slater and Thurstons and tearing it up.

Re: 2014 Rugby League World Cup
Australia defeat England in the opening game 28-20
MOTM: Johnathon Thurstsons.
Australia where quite rusty to start but as the game wore on they started to play better and has the passes flying around, had too many missed tackles i think but England also had way to many penilties, and also Sam Burgees could miss a few games with his high tackle.
Up next Wales v Italy

Burgess only getting 1 game is a bit of a joke. Could it be that they want to keep the higher profile players in the tournament?

What a joke of a comp and a wanna be like Union tourney this is. Should just have the only three nations that play the game seriously against each other.

Other semi was an absolute cracker.
Kiwis over the Poms, 20-18, with winning try to Johnson with 20 seconds to go then conversion after the final hooter to send them through to the final.

Australia are World Champions after destroying the sheep shaggers 34-2.
Kiwis lucky not to lose by 50 such was the dominance by the Aussies

Re: 2014 Rugby League World Cup
That NZ commentator was driving me nuts in the first half. I think in the second he realised they weren't dominating like he thought so he settled down a bit.
But a totally dominant performance by Australia. When you can leave Inglis, Hayne, Morris and Boyd sitting outside the whole game you're not going to lose. The forwards made so much territory after contact and at no stage did it look like NZ were anything but perfectly covered. They'd throw the ball around, take blokes on, offload, even the odd missed tackle there was at least one bloke right there waiting to make the tackle.
Some amazing highlights, but also it was pretty softly refereed IMHO. Some things fair enough be hot on, but it looked to me like they were trying to find things to call.
Can't comment without mentioning the ground. It's a disgrace we had to play on that. I'm staggered there wasn't a broken neck, arm, leg or dislocated elbow, shoulder or ACL injury. You can't ask a bloke to not fly for a ball in hope of dragging it in, no matter the game, but particularly a world cup final. The end goal run offs are absolutely deadly and someone will have a serious injury one day. If it was a pool game and I was Cameron Smith, I'd be telling the boys not to play. Should never have been allowed to host a game, and should never again. I hope the players get together and make that clear to the officials. Morris scores just about the greatest try of all time and could well have retired 1/2 a second after doing it.
