Coffee & Coffee Place Reviews

Post by Sky Pilot »

I readily admit to being a serious coffee snob. I would rather drink rain water than instant coffee. Refuse to ingest that rancid abomination. Filter coffee is fully acceptable as is plunger coffee. Capuccino and/or a 30ml shot of expresso though are the absolute top of the wazzer ways to get coffee into ya.
The latest generation of 'made in China' home-strength (as opposed to seriously industrial strength) bench top cappiccino machines are worth every cent. This household punches through 8-10 a day and at cafe value $4 each the device we have is a snip at $385. Paid for itself quick time. Neighbours love it so its a good PR device as well. What are your coffee choices?

Tim Hortons, but it is a long way to go to get one. Having said that, my pantry is stocked with plenty of Tims ground coffee.

Long black. No milk, no sugar. And not too watered down; some of the alleged "long blacks" served by those seppo chain stores are undrinkable.

Got a small cheapo ($100-$200) espresso machine at home. Does the job just fine; one doesn't need fancy imported italian gadgetry to simply pass steam through ground coffee beans.

Tend to use coffee bags in the office. They do a better job than instant but with all the convenience. Occasionally will make the trek to the site cafeteria where the lass who makes the coffee knows everybody by face and how they like their coffee, but wouldn't know half of them by name. On making eye contact all she asks is "have here or takeaway"? She makes an excellent long black.

I always put Rio "El Salvador" coffee through my machine. Love it.

Latte, no sugars.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Mate, from the above description of your coffee habits, I wouldn't be surprised if you had a boyfriend ;)

Postscript: today at the train station cafe the lass simply looked at me and said "$3.40". So now I have two girlfriends ;)

Fully auto breville?

I just have to press a button and it does the rest...

Nahhh you have to do all the work which is very much an aquired skill. Stretching the milk properly takes some practice and timing the 30ml shot of the 'crema' is vital to the final product. I think I will make one right now actually.

Most mornings I have a short macchiato at Veloce.

When I'm drinking a lot of coffee (ie working at home) I'll use my percolator/dripolator.

At home, I have these two items:

I used to use a grinder before I realised it was a cutter (ie those little $40 things with blades). It's made a massive difference to the taste, since the grinder doesn't burn the coffee like the cutter did.

At home I usually have short blacks.

I try and get coffee from The Coffee Barun
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.
