I havn't got the time at work to look at Morphett Vale but i imagine it would be similar and they also have other clubs around them with who they compete.
Schools are the breeding grounds maybe a concerted push in the local primary schools will encourage kids to come out with their mates as it is a bit late in high school as they are already involved.
Last year Thommo (prez) Mark (team manager) Seano (B Grade Coach/Player) and myself (absolute GUN) went down to Noarlunga Primary and did a full day there. We took every class for 30-45 minutes.
It was a fun day, and half of the kids insisted they'd seen us playing on TV playing for Hawthorn because me and sean were both in full gear.
The only problem is keeping them interested after you leave.
We had a few interested but im guessing either they lost interest as soon as we left or the position the clubs in made them or their parents decide not to play for us, or even go somewhere else.
Once you leave the school its hard to tell if you actually got them excited to play footy, or they were just excited to be getting out of class for a kick and catch.
At least you are putting your club out there, even if you pick up one kid it is a start and if brings a mate the flow on effect will great for your club. Your president is a great bloke and busting his n-ts to get you guys up and running I hope it pays off for him and the club.

At least they are stats and not an off the cuff comment about population which is wildly inaccurate. What they do show is that there is not as big a difference as some might think between the areas. BDOS do well as they actively recruit and don't wait for it to happen.
Rather than want everything to change for them MAYBE Morphie Parks need to work a bit harder then attack the issue from a position of strength. It is all about cycles and I am sure the once great club will rise again.
We also had a seniors Vs minis match organised by the players...
We were going to have a scratchie with all senior players the day of senior pressos, but when we rocked up at the club Hackham East Primary were having their footy presentations...
They wanted to play us so it ended up about 15 As Bs and 18s players Vs about 150 minis, parents and teachers...
Probably the most fun i had all season (because I dominated the 9 year olds..haha) and the teachers and parents really got into it too...one teacher even laying a devistating tackle on me...all in good fun...

wow vic are you any relation to sfl spy? I know you guys think Morphie Parks just sit on there hands and wait for the kids to come through the door but there are plenty of people who have been putting in plenty of time to get our junior grades up and running. Yes going to primary schools is a great idea, thats why we went to all of the ones in our area to let kids know we are around and we are also in contact with the local high schools as well. If you look at how many footy clubs are around us and how many schools in the area its hard to find kids, you need to make your club as attractive as possible and a major attraction in our area is metro sth as parents don't have to travel so far and there kids can play in there age group. Also the area up at cove is a little bit bigger compared to 2006
My mail is that Morphettville threw the gauntlet down to the SFL give us what we want or we will take our kids to the metro south west. If correct this is a little bit naughty of them. If you dont have the kids for SFL footy how are you going to have the numbers for 8 or more grades of metron footy.

Not an off the cuff comment at all. I live in the area with my kids going to a school also in the area so have some knowledge. Cove have that area all to themselves - nearest next club is some distance away and it has only opened up further with the new roadway linking up Sheidow Park to Hallet Cove. Morphettville Park have at least 5 clubs within 5km radius to it.
I would say their efforts are not through lack of hard work just the extra competition. BDOS have the luxury of a primary school across the road and the main high school a couple of good screw punts away.

Your mail must be going to the wrong address. Also only need 3 grades to play in metro sth league, you don't have to field a team in every grade.
WHEELS & DEALS My mail is very accurate. As I understand they have not committed to playing at all this season. I suppose next Monday will reveal all.
SFL is a great league for clubs to develop. By not entering teams in every grade you lose the atmosphere of each team supporting each other, what a shambles for support staff it must be having teams all over the shop.

What will happen monday night? Our Proposal has been taken of the table and isn't getting a look in. When it was put to the SFL I got told alot of the board members would be supporting it but last mondays meeting they must have done a back flip for it not to be even looked at now. I agree it would be fantastic if every club could field every grade but not going to happen any time soon. What would happen if every club fielded every grade. The programe would be easy, all junior grades would be able to follow there seniors around every week, it would be great. What would happen to the clubs with dual teams where would they play, would you try and put them into the programe, probably not, you would have to get another division going and they would only play about 4 teams and kids might not want to play in division 2. This would also put support stuff under pressure like they are now when clubs have dual teams.

1st and foremost the dual side concept is not an a and b grade or div 1 and 2 concept. It wa propsoed by BDOS several years ago as a way of attracting college kids back to club footy. IE: Play school Saturday and Club Sunday a way of keeping kids involved with clubs. It was done with an eye to the future developing senior footballers. Instead of having a whinge about how hard it is to attract Juniors take a leaf out BDOS book. We are in the same area as far as attracting kids goes but instead of promoting ouselves as paupers and crying poor. BDOS are promoted as a successful family club and consequently attract kids from all over. Good press helps to

3 cheers for bighton. yes they maybe down the road but we still have 4 clubs closer to us we have to compete with as well. Brighton have done well to hold onto the kids they get from Brighton primary and high schools. Not to sure when the last time we promoted ourselves as paupers and the bad press we had about 4 years ago had 2 clubs involved, can you name the other club? BRIGHTON. We don't have any issues with brighton or how many kids they have. The issues we are trying to resolve are with the SFL and there structure of the junior grades, if brighton like the way it is good for them, We have to look after Mophie parks and if we can get more kids by changing the grade structure or playing in a different league we will try it. As i have said before we have had to hand over half a team of under 14s for the last few years and we don't won't to have to do that any more. Did you have an answer for what would happen to the dual teams if all the clubs had a full set of juniors?

Sunday juniors was brought in for 1 club and 1 club only...Brighton.I think its a load of sh#t i rekn the 2nd comp should be played on saturdays the way it use to be a cupla yrs ago.f#k brighton bunch of stuck up pr#cks.
Is that Minis or the 14s, 16s & 18s junior teams your talking about...ive only been in the SFL for a year...the 14s, 16s & 18s play on sundays in the SAAFL and its like theres two different clubs....juniors never at senior games, seniors never at junior games...i prefer how the SFL do it...and i think the minis is a good way for kids that play for their schools on saturdays to be able to play club footy on sunday.

Cyclops not actually correct. Cove were a big supporter of the sunday juniors 14/16 as a way to keep kids at the club who play school footy Saturday (Unfortunately schools won't move to mid week) Where would you play Saturday and think about the people that would miss the main event Saturday arvo by playing away from the seniors. Morphett Vale and Reynella have also been supporters of the Sunday comp and a couple of other clubs are getting ready to join the fray. Brighton might have their faults but I reckon you have been a bit harsh this time.

Hoorah/Hoorah/Hoorah. As you are next door to Brighton, aren't the other clubs also next to Brighton?? Paupers just read back over your posts. If I remember correctly there was an incident with Cove B grade and 1 other with another club whose name escapes me at present (But that is not what this post is about) Well as the grade structure within the SFL isn't going to change I gather my mail is close to the mark to quote you "or playing in a different league we will try it." Where have you handed the kids to?? Maybe you should look at playing year 7 in the u14 to raise a team. By having 13/14/15/16 etc is not going to solve the problem you will still only have 1/2 a team each year. DUAL TEAMS play Sunday and so far it has worked pretty well it has got better each year. maybe you approach SORBENT to be your major sponsor.
