Re: PAFC 2026
Great win - could make a case with a few things going our way we could be 6-1 (WCE, StK, Haw games were all winnable at stages) - we lack that bit of class though. Should have won by 10 goal Sat night. Very happy with the way we have tried to play all year and can see exactly the way Carr wants us to play which is most pleasing. Will be some down weeks (hopefully not this week) but good to enjoy a good win. JHF may have taken that next step, has put a very good month of footy together now & moving as good as I have seen him.
Adelaide, WB (home), GC (Darwin), Carlton (home) to lead into the bye - would take 2-2 from these games and be comfortable with where we are at the Bye (GC will belt us up there).

Very spirited win, Rome wasn't built in a day, we're gonna lose a few and we're gonna win some we shouldn't.bertiebeatle1 wrote:Great win - could make a case with a few things going our way we could be 6-1 (WCE, StK, Haw games were all winnable at stages) - we lack that bit of class though. Re: PAFC 2026
Geelong have smacked us the last three times we've met because tactically we haven't had the plan A to beat them or be willing to adopt a plan B to try.
We're seeing some very smart tactical moves, particularly under Dew in the midfield.

Re: PAFC 2026
Well, none of us saw that coming but we sure as hell will take it as Port Adelaide took a scalp at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night defeating arch nemesis Geelong by 30 points.
I’m no lone soldier when it comes to thinking “Here we go again” after Dangerfield and then Cameron goaled within 2 minutes after two centre clearances went straight inside 50 as Geelong flew out of the blocks. Keep in mind the last three encounters between these sides have resulted in 88, 76 and 84 point thumpings to Geelong. To say that first ( second, first one doesn’t count ) beer tasted a little off wouldn’t be a stretch.
Much like last week Sweet was moved forward and Visentini into the middle with immediate effect. Georgiades missed, then goaled, Neale goaled from a dodgy free and Cameron had his second with a ripper from the boundary for Geelong around some Port missed opportunities but one thing was clear, Port had the game on our terms. Geelong had 4 straight at ¼ time, after 3 straight to end the quarter Port had 4.6 and Georgiades had 4 marks inside 50 in the first term not only hinting at the night he had ahead but demonstrating how Port had control moving the ball exactly how we had planned to forwards on the move and into space. The pressure, much like last week against Hawthorn, was cranked right up in the second term. Richards, Byrne-Jones and the wings we’re not allowing Geelong any easy outs.
From 7 to 2 first possessions in the middle of the ground in the opening term Port had the first 4 of the second as Kane Farrell goaled on the run from range in the opening seconds. With Sweet now taking control of young ruck Mitch Edwards after Blicavs left the field with injury in the first term Port had hands on the ball first and while Smith was doing his best to keep Geelong in it the running power of the Power was resulting in field position dominance. It was most obvious in the second quarter with how much trouble Geelong was having exiting their back 50. We’re seeing some real development from Mackinlay, Moraes and Wehr who are all running machines and this enabled us to keep our shape wide, often the ground Geelong use to move the ball from the back half and that blocked their exit strategy.
With Butters being Butters we also saw the next step in the evolution of JHF. Now, anyone who mashes a key pad to give their views like I do gets seduced by the football media who make calls early based on very little evidence. I’d done that 3 weeks ago on Mackinlay and since then he’s been very good, the media had only three weeks ago raised the prospect of Horne-Francis hitting his ceiling and since then he’s been arguably our best player, certainly was on the weekend. He’s spending more time in the midfield after an interrupted pre-season and the stats sheet is filling up because of it. His ability to hit the scoreboard hasn’t been questioned and he’s now adding proper inside midfield time to his work. 12 clearances on the weekend and all of them as he used his power to get clear. Very pleasing signs.
The 13 point half time lead could have been, should have been, more. Georgiades had 3.5 at half time and Port had 15 shots to 7. The writing was all over the wall.
At this point my thoughts went to how we were approaching the game. Butters was playing a second fiddle role taking the heavy Mullin tag to the edge of and not the inside of the contest, we had dropped the zone from our back half when Geelong had the ball in their defence (in years gone by they picked that apart) going man on man to stop their exit strategy and lesser lights like Lai, who was keeping Dangerfield out of the game, Mackinaly who was doing a number on Dempsey on the wing and Richards who had the job on Stewart were all dong their job and some. There’s little doubt this coaching group is making changes to suit opposition and I am loving it. System is taking precedence over emotion and it’s showing.
9 shots, 2.7, to 1.2 I the third had the game iced and it was only a matter of how ruthless we could be on field and how much damage I could do in the MTX bar off field. As it turns out we both had a go. Half way through the third term Port had had 84% of game time in our forward half on the back of 11 I50’s to 1 and had 16 scores from turnover. The coaches would have loved it. I did. That is complete control.
The last quarter was some numbers on the board, Georgiades had 8 marks I50 for the night, Aliir 4 intercept marks and Port ran out 30 point victors. Bonza!
Boons best – Horne-Francis, Butters, Sweet, Georgiades, Burgoyne, Moraes

Classic case of getting 30 games under his belt and getting some belief in himself.
As for holding his spot, we don't have anyone to bring in!

His stats (not everything as a defender) are up, esp R50's.

Re: PAFC 2026
Port Adelaide NGA product Zemes Pilot has undergone knee surgery and will miss the upcoming U18 national championships.
The potential top 5 pick in 2027, suffered the injury while in Melbourne and it’s uncertain whether he’ll play at all again this year.
Pilot’s future is also heavily linked to the upcoming overhaul of draft rules, which could be announced as early as tomorrow.
