A teenager has been arrested after allegedly spitting in the face of a police officer in Adelaide’s CBD overnight.

Officers were called to assist security staff with a patron at a Hindley St nightclub at around 1am.

The 18‑year‑old was allegedly causing a disturbance and when police escorted him from the area, the Seaford man allegedly turned and spat in the face of a police officer.

He was then arrested and charged with assaulting a prescribed emergency worker.

The man is set to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 1.

Riley Beveridge reporting the AFL will march ahead with Father Son / NGA draft changed for the 2026 draft.

This will cost Port a first round pick. Fair bit of capital.

Potentially 2 top 10’s for Cochrane but more likely a top 10 and a pick in the 20’s. Still worth it
Might make it near on impossible to get all 3 lads the year after though

They're making it no more than two picks in the same round though? Ie pick 1 is 3000 points so technically 12 (1286) and 18 (985) match pick one IF they keep the same index numbers.

Your maths is out.
1286 + 985 is only 2271
Currently you have pick 7 if the season ended today.
With pick 7 you would need to add pick 6 to match

Oops.

3 + 18 ( I was working on 18 being the bottom / second pick we'd use )

And this will be the whole problem with these changes. Every club knows Port will most likely need another top 10 pick so will charge well overs in a pick swap. Worst case scenario could be a player like Cochrane costing a club 3 or more first rounders and having to use all future draft capital. Teams near the bottom need a big points discount

And the forward planning we did for Cody Walker is now null and void too. What a cluster of an organisation. It was ok when it suited Brisbane - who were already top of the tree prior to the Ashcrofts being available, now for us, it changes. Excellent!

Cool, grandfather the current situation so clubs can plan accordingly. Give it 3-5 years minimum. Doing this last minute is sh1t.

Indeed it was but not giving clubs notice is the issue. If they said upon Tasmania entering the competition the rules are changing clubs would have had 2 drafts to prepare.

You blokes do know that the AFL is all about reactionary optics and nothing to do with fairness, no?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

But wasn't the issue with the Ashcrofts that they were getting them for the points equivalent of like pick 8, rather than 1 or 2?
This was for two factors, 1) clubs weren't bidding on them at pick 1 and 2, and 2) there used to be a 20% discount for matching.

I think they should get rid of the discount and leave it at that. (then it's simply on the other clubs if they don't bid, then so be it).
In my opinion, it shouldn't really matter if you use 2 picks from round 1 or 8 picks from rounds 2-6. Provided it gets you to the required number of points then that should be fine.

Limiting it to two picks, really restricts the ability for clubs to plan effectively.

Imagine a club thinks a player is going to go in round 2, so they get their picks ready to go for that, then the player slips into round 3, and the club doesn't have any picks ready to go at that level, cause they traded pre-draft assuming they needed round 2 picks, not round 3 picks.

Even at the top end, say you think your man is going at 1, so you get picks 3 and 18 ready to go, knowing that's the 3000 points you need. But he doesn't go one, he goes at two. You now need to overpay, using up picks 3 and 18 anyway, as you don't have the right picks to match pick 2, rather than pick 1.

Going to be messy moving forward.
