I think Wells' contract had mutual opt outs before the start of each season if so likely wouldn't cost much if anything.

Not a great situation but if it has to be done now is the time to do it to head hunt the best available coach. I hope we're able to lure Trevor Gleeson back from Japan.

Making a fortune on game day, only has 1 year left of his contract which could even be an option?

Mutual being the key word
Mike has already said he wants to coach next season so would need to be sacked(that’s how I read it anyway)

Whoever the new coach is better have some players lined up.
I still don’t think this roster is good enough to win it

I don't think so mutual options on player contracts for instance mean both player and team have to agree to pick up the option, if either party declines the contract ends.

It's not a great contract for a coach to sign but Wells had been a life long assistant coach in the NBA & NCAA and always desired to be a head coach.

Half the squad is already signed, put a good third import in there and they win it.

Brown and Jenkins were rubbish

That is my understanding of it too.

A great assistant coach doesn’t always become a good head coach

Agreed and prior to us not one of all the teams he's been an assistant at was willing to make him the head coach, which says a bit.

1993–1994 Mount Vernon Nazarene (assistant)
1999–2004 Houston Rockets (assistant)
2004–2005 Los Angeles Lakers (assistant)
2005–2009 San Antonio Spurs (assistant)
2009–2011 Washington Wizards (assistant)
2011–2013 George Mason (assistant)
2013–2014 South Florida (assistant)
2014–2022 Utah Jazz (assistant)
2023–2024 Charlotte Hornets (assistant)

TBH Bryce should have dished to him in that last play, was wide open in his favorite spot

Welcome back Mike Wells!

Now, on Thursday, 36ers GM of Basketball Operations Matt Weston called the rumours “comical”, while reiterating that Wells is under contracted for next season.

“[There is] no foundation [in those rumours] at all and it was quite comical,” Weston said during the club’s press conference.

“I thought it was probably a little bit disappointing that it come out. No one's contacted me or the club to say is this what's happening, so I think it's more social media than journalism.

“We're doing our exit interviews now, and planning meetings for next year, [which he’s involved in as] he's contracted.

“We've got to remember we're one rebound away from winning it. It'd be pretty tough on him, right?

“He's done some really exceptional things this year. My thought is he's here, unless he gets an NBA gig, and we'd all understand that.”

NBL Free Agency starts today and looks like the 36ers wil be parting ways with Dejan Vasiljevic.

The Adelaide 36ers and guard Dejan Vasiljevic are progressing toward a parting of ways, sources told ESPN.

Vasiljevic, 28, has been a member of the 36ers for the last three seasons - joining the franchise early in the 2023-24 NBL season - and had one year remaining on his contract, but his tenure in Adelaide is set to come to an abrupt end, with the two parties moving toward a mutual release. He will now become a free agent.

From a 36ers point of view, the release gives the team more roster flexibility as they continue to build around six-time MVP Bryce Cotton.

Vasiljevic's representation has already begun the process of engaging with other NBL teams, sources said.
