Last week I noticed that the regulator hose on my BBQ was leaking, so no probs, easy fix, I’ll just get a replacement.

Upon starting my research to find the correct hose, I find out that that POL connectors for gas cylinders have been replaced by a new LCC27 connector.

What’s this new connector? It’s a RH thread connector rather than the existing POL LH thread … awesome, it nearly takes me more time to connect a gas bottle than to cook the BBQ, hooray!

But hang on, you can’t buy the POL connector gas bottles anymore, LCC27 became mandatory for new bottles in 2022. Shit, do I have to change my gas bottles as well? Being a tightarse, this isn’t something I wanted to contemplate. Gas bottle 1 has another year before it’s out of date, but bottle 2 has another 3 years.

Faark, do they even sell the now superseded POL regulator hoses now? Do I have to scrap the 2 gas bottles and buy new ones?

After more frantic research, I started to calm down. Yes, POL regulator hoses are still around. A POL connector hose fitting will work with a new LCC27 connector, but not the other way around.

Yessssss! So all I had to do was buy a new POL regulator hose (which is where I started the journey) and then can still use my current gas bottles, and when they go out of date, the new LCC27 bottles will still work!

So that’s what I did.

As an aside, the new LCC27 bottles have a failsafe mode whereby gas will not flow unless a proper hose is connected, even if the tap is open. Even better, the new RH thread and handle are 5 billion times easier to use and only require a small number of turns to engage.

Well, that’s enough excitement for today, I’m exhausted.

something about standing at the urinal of the Dimboola pub whilst having a slash in the cool of an old dunny, whilst taking in the serenity of the country.

Yep, that works. I organised a BBQ for the kids to come over one day after purchasing a new BBQ in the morning, I went to set it up around 5pm only to notice the weird arse gas fitting, took my half full bottle to OTR swap and go hoping there was one there with a new fitting and then bingo, there it was.

I had to post on FB to ask anyone what the go was and of course copped a bollocking over it.

A while ago I had a wedding in Mildura, so I killed the morning watching U17s & ressies, they have a great set-up there.

Was tempted to miss the wedding and watch the seniors but it's along walk home from there...

Yup,agree love checking out country cricket/footy ovals. I also love going inmto the clubrooms and checking out all the old photos. You look at the old faces and think which one of you blokes did your "bit" last century, who had long days walking behind teams of horses planting and cutting hay, who was fencing in paddocks, working in the town mills and then, who was the publican keeping them refreshed on the weekend.

The former footy grounds page on fb is sensational, brings a tear to the eye looking at some of those old grounds and how Country Australia has changed.

I feel like that with cricket too.
The ghosts of the past, days when their town and district was the centre of their lives, even up to the 70's when farms were smaller, banks plentiful, shaggy hair, lads in Kingswoods or Torana's. Even the Adelaide Hills would have been more local like this.
