It's the ability to link kick chains that shows progression. Some teams do it well, some not so much, which is a bit more indicative of the competition expanding too quickly.

I think overall, the skills have improved. Marks like Scholz's are testament to that.

It’s football knowledge/experience that is missing ATM

Skills most certainly have improved
One skill, the girls have is the aerobic ability to chase and tackle and pressure opposition players
The courage levels are exceptional

The Irish girls have brought in different skills and added depth to the competition

What I like is that it is good old fashioned contested football
I prefer low scores rather than fabricated higher scores

It's still shit and always has been. Imagine if the AFL actually spent the same amount of money on grassroots footy for 10 years so they could actually learn how to play the game at a level that isn't embarrassing to watch before starting up the so called professional comp? That would have made more sense.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

You need to see it to believe it.

They wouldn't have got the female numbers at grassroots level if they couldnt see the big picture/bright lights of what the AFLW is.

Adelaide get so much of the ball but they just hurry their possessions way too much, need to pick off players better rather than trying to go hell for leather every single time. They go so hard all the time.

. Ponters form up forward is a concern.

4 wins on the trot for the Port girls, great atmosphere Friday night up on the deck with a few South Coasts and a schnitty.

With 16th and 17th placed to come ( GC and GWS ) there's a real chance that we can finish on 7 wins from 11 matches and earn a maiden finals berth in our 3rd season on the back of 3 Rising Star nomination. Future looks bright at Alberton.

Dowrick, Scholz, Goody, Brooksby, Borg, Window and Syme just some of the core of a talented group coming together and Arnell who was under the pump in the coaches box if we hadn't moved forward this year is certain to stay on now, probably earnt herself a year or two on the back of this season already.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

The top teams, plus Geelong, Port & Melbourne are all good to watch, they take the game on and try to score, unfortunately there are some teams that know they are no chance so play +2 behind the ball, even when down by 5 goals. As the girls get fitter and stronger they are able to close down space much quicker than before so it can become contested and congested.

I cant see much changing in the next 4-5 years as there just isn't enough talent for 18 teams, personally Id split the comp into 2 9 team divisions, you can then play each other once, have promotion/relegation. Do this for the next 5 years and then maybe bring it back as 1 comp when the game allows a full season where everyone plays everyone once.

The discerning fact is that these girls had to play 4 games in close to or just over 2 weeks on occasions
2 week injuries meant the girls could miss close to or about 4 games in that period

The skills of these girls will continue to improve and I think by 2030 the AFLW will be a terrific spectator sport

I agree standard is not good, the girls fitness is much better though.

I understand if you have family playing or like myself a friends daughter that is elite athlete BUT the product is not what i would pay to watch.

With academies more prevalent & starting at younger ages the game will be so much better in around 4-5 years time. The comp will then be played majorly by footballers rather than “athletic types” they’ve pinched from other sports. My daughter was asked to try out for Glenelg U/15’s rep team earlier this season, there were girls out there kicking drop punts on the run 40m and hitting targets, handballing both hands & consistently marking over head. Their skills were better than half the players in the AFLW currently.
It will come, believe me…

If people can't see the improvement in the last 4 years they're not looking.

Mind you plenty of people shit can it even though they don't watch it, not sure why you'd bother telling people your opinion if you don't care for it though.

Bit rich coming from you mate

No doubt there has been some improvement but it is still crap to watch. That's just being honest,

Not comparing to the mens game at all.
I just want to watch the best of the sport I choose to watch , whatever that sport happens to be.

Like the men's game, coaching is killing it.
Coaches protecting their positions and going ultra defensive to protect the scoreboard.

Skills have improved and like the men's comp the talent is spread to far and wide. The 2 conference set up Dutchy posted would be perfect for the girls.

Also give them a proper f%#&#&÷ season.
They are treated like a tube of Selleys Gap Filler.
