Paris 2024

Post by am Bays »

Not saying it is easy to qualify for an Olympic event and some are easier than others but to win the two Spots in the women’s 200 free on the Australian team you had to break the WR tonight

Both Arieana Titmus 1:52:23 and Mollie O’Callaghan 1:52:48 have gone under 1:52: 82 old WR to win the two individual spots

O’Neils winning time at Sydney was 1:58:24

Impressive start for the girls. Lock in two gold medals Womens 200 Free and 4x200 Free Relay
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Interesting to compare Titmus's times from the Aussie Championships in April, 1:55.38 to last nights 1:52.23.
It's not like the Aussie Champs is a meet you aren't trying at either.

Don't get me wrong, Titmus swam 1:53.5 at Tokyo 2021 so 1:52.23 isn't too out of the question over 3 years, but yeah, last night's result from Titmus in particular seemed an amazing leap forward.

Mollie is a star, been on her bandwagon since she swam that 1:55.11 off the gun in the heats of the 4x2 at Toyko only to be left out of the final and had to watch McKeon, Wilson and Neale all swim high 1:55s off the flying start.
ultimately we finished 3rd despite being red hot favorites before the race.

Lets hope the selectors get the final 4 right this time round!

Now that the Boomers six warm up games are done in which they went 5-1 and Dante Exum has been cleared of serious injury and will remain in the team for the Olympics I thought it best to post the times for the Boomers group stage games here.

July 27 - Australia vs Spain @ 6:30 pm

July 30 - Australia vs Canada @ 9 pm

Aug 2 - Australia vs Greece @ 9 pm

As I understand the 12 teams are now divided into three groups, the top two teams and the two best of the 3rd place teams will advance to the Quarter Finals.

Group A - Australia, Greece, Canada, Spain

Group B - France, Germany, Japan, Brazil

Group C - Serbia, South Sudan, Puerto Rico, USA

Hopefully Channel 9 show Boomers games if not on the main channel on the digital channels and/or 9Now. I dare suggest the non-Aussie games perhaps with the exception of the USA's games will probably be on Stan Sport.

Sat and watched the entire opening ceremony, all 5.5 hours of it. Deserve a medal for that effort!

I’m no Celine Dion fan, but bugger me, has she got a set of pipes.

Does anyone know what those screen looking things are at the bottom of each lane in the swimming pool? Cameras, Sensors, Time Clocks, Mirrors? My wife and I were trying to work it out when the swimming was on earlier.

A good start to the Boomers Olympic campaign tonight beating archnemesis Spain. Next up Canada on Tuesday night.

Australia 92 (Landale 20, Mills 19, Giddey 17, Daniels 13, McVeigh 13) def Spain 80 (Aldama 27, Llull 17, W. Hernangomez 14)

That was a fantastic win and I still think we can improve. The connection between Giddey and Landale was superb

First Gold to the Aussies
Grace Brown absolutely smashed all comers in the Cycling Road Time Trial. Won by over 90 seconds which is a smashing and all the other chicks looked gassed at the end whilst she looked like she could ride another 10 clicks
