A-League 2021-22

Post by RB »

So the draw for the first six rounds of the 2021-22 A-League season has been released.

Adelaide United get their season underway on the road against Perth (potentially featuring Daniel Sturridge) on Saturday 20 November at 9.35 p.m. SA time

Our first home match will be the following Saturday at 7.15 p.m. against reigning champions Melbourne City.

United's major 'ins' are the returning Isaias and George Blackwood (we have a lot of midfielders to choose from) as well as centre half rejects from other clubs Nick Ansell and Jacob Tratt - we will have an extremely dodgy defence again this season.

We have also got Goodwin on loan for another season - hopefully his injury will heal in time for the start of the league season.

'Outs' include Strain, Elsey and Juric, and the questionable release of Michael Marrone.

Michael Marrone worthy of one more year?

For some reason Carl Veart did all he could not to play Marrone much last season. I just think with the departure of Strain and Elsey (with no good replacements), and Marrone's experience and versatility, he was worthy of another year. Apparently he played well with the Sturt Lions in the second half of the season.

He was hot property with all big clubs in the NPL looking to sign him.

At the pub in my Mariners gear waiting for my son thinking we'd be the only Mariners fans at the game tonight. There's about 8 Mariners fans at the pub now and only 3 AU fans, WTF?

Depends how far you want to walk, but if you don't mind walking 500m then Cator Street, West Hindmarsh is the best spot IMO.

Shocking game at Gosford tonight! :(

United still 50-50 at best I reckon to make finals. Need a win next week at home to the Victory.

Nope missed out going done 1-nill.

Some bits and pieces on Twitter calling out Melbourne Victory fans for the targeting towards Josh Cavallo all night.

Seriously Melbourne Victory fans are feral.

Looked as though Central Coast had just blown a 3-0 lead against the Jets, but the Jets' equalizer was ruled out for a push.

3-2 to the Mariners on 85 minutes.

So United finished 4th, about 4 places higher than I had them at the start of the season. 12 wins, 7 draws, 7 losses.

Elimination final against the Mariners is at 3.35 p.m. on Sunday at Hindmarsh.

Melbourne City will be minor premiers (and qualify for next year's Asian Champions League) if they defeat Wellington tomorrow night. Otherwise, Victory will finish top.
