Chromecast

Post by Psyber »

I am looking at an adaptor to enable my older 50" Plasma TV to function as a Smart TV.
One option is a plug in "computer on a stick" or a set top box.
Another less expensive option is Chromecast which can in theory pick up signal from one of my computers or my phone via wifi.

Anyone used one?
How effective is it?

Works well in my experience. I use my tablet computer to the TV without issue. Had to download an app on the tablet to connect.

My Dad uses one to get Foxtel from his phone using a login from my Foxtel Now subscription. Think he's managed to master the concept and now secretly addicted to it but won't admit it.

I have a chromecast and agree it works well.

I use it to stream the EPL from my phone to the TV.

my tv is a smart tv and for netflix and stan i find that more convenient. just becasue you can use the TV remote. but i have used netflix and SBS on demand with the chromecast and it works fine.

what will you use it for?

will work well for all of that - you just download the app on your phone, and then press the cast button on anything you would like to play

I prefer a pre-installed media centre from EBay.
Had it for 18 months and still have access to every channel in the world as well as every movie and TV show ever made.
Best $100 I've ever spent.

Note: even though I have access to all those things never would I use it to watch them as its illegal, just use it to browse my photos. ;)

Hi all, need some help in getting Disney plus to work.

What are the options out there besides a Chromecast or Apple TV.

Does anyone have any experience with a decent android based media centre or has anyone had experience with a Fire TV stick?
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

For netflix, I use the web browser on a laptop and HDMI cable to TV.

If you have a smart tv you may be able to mirror the screen of your phone and watch it that way too...

Chromecast would be the best way though IMO.. then the HDMI cable option.

Just fork out $50 for a Chromecast, it's awesome and can be used for so many things. I gave up on the free/cheap options a while back.

Are there any advantages/differences between a Amazon Firestick and Google Chromecast? Our aging Plasma TV requires one of these.
