Drugs, umps and other ammo's news
Hi all
I've shut down the Gepps Cross thread as it's run it's course and obviously it's not just them under the spotlight now.
Any previous ban we've imposed on discussion the events of the weekend and previous has been lifted.
HOWEVER, THERE WILL BE RULES.....
1) The specifics of the actual incidents will not be discussed
2) We will also beat with a banstick, anyone who wasn't witness to the event speculating, or reporting any hearsay of the actual incident.
You've all been warned in advance so don't whinge if you get the arse for deliberately ignoring this request.

Can we keep these discussions in this thread now, to avoid filling the D5 thread with it. It's a far too interesting comp to be bogged down with this.
Thanks

er no, you can comment on what has already been reported by the media thus far. Anything else like speculating on the outcome of both the League Tribunal or Police investigation you are dicing with death.

if I decide to transfer from the CSLFUP to Rowston's Runners in the SAAFL next year, will I still be allowed to have a puff of Vetolin to if I start feeling wheezy??? There, both no-no topics covered....
i think the white and orange SAAFlL umpires rig is quite striking....

On another matter, I hear an under 18 game was abandoned on Sunday. (Modbury v Henley).

Re: Drugs, umps and other ammo's news
From the President in the ABC article
“He actually didn’t strike the umpire but he did certainly grab the umpire.
“He grabbed the umpire and he didn’t strike him. The umpire, however, did require a bit of first aid after.”
then down the bottom it said "the umpired had a bruised and swollen eye.
find it hard to believe that just "grabbing" the umpire can cause a bruised and swollen eye.

Re: Drugs, umps and other ammo's news
Hang on..
So less than four weeks ago a young footballer from a suburban club in Adelaide, was given a suspended sentence for drug dealing, and during sentencing he partly blamed and implied that his footy club had a 'drug culture' problem.
This was reflected in comments made by the sentencing Judge.
Cue the absolute howls of outrage by all and sundry and the young man was blasted as being weak by trying to 'blame' his footy club in part for his drug dealing.
Interesting now that these highly respected football mentors are coming out saying that in fact there is an endemic drug culture within suburban footy clubs...

And this:
“(But) we support that umpire ... because no one should be assaulted if you are trying to officiate a game.”
So is he saying the umpire was assaulted or just grabbed?

Check the definition of assault mate.

Really its a problem in the community full stop. Only the most naive person would believe its only isolated to a few clubs

If a player is found guilty of an assault on a referee should that carry over to all amateur sports?

Re: Drugs, umps and other ammo's news
Accredited educational programs within footy clubs is required. Outlining drug and alcohol issues, on/off field violence issues, respect for umpires etc. Make it compulsory as part of registration requiring updating every 3_5 years. Players and club officials. Outlining the consequences to individuals and clubs. Within that, an understanding that club officials are volunteers not law enforcement, treat football clubs as a place for education not law enforcement. Understand that clubs are an excellent means of educating these young men and women, but it can't be left to few who already give as much as possible.

AFL and SANFL players sit through them on a yearly basis.
