It is a terribly difficult situation to work in an environment of uncertainty

No, from our point of view the Air Warfare Destroyer project still has 3/4 years left in it so nobody on our site is panicking just yet.

We're just keeping the faith that we may get the 10 Frigates to build.

I think the government has committed to doing all maintenance works at ASC in the future just not building them here.

Not sure how that will effect you but hopefully tjeret are no job losses.

I received a flyer in the post the other day about saving the subs. I understand that the SA government will try and fight to the end for the subs to be built here but I believe that its all a waste of time.

In fact having Germany and France provide any sort of documents would be a waste od time as I truly believe that the Federal Government has already made a deal with Japan. And this was a deal made sometime ago.

Its almost like a scare campaign with the Collins class subs. They had an initial desgin issue, but since this was rectified they have been a very good set of subs.

Much better that the general mass would know.

probably the best place for this

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-04-16/n ... as/6395972

of course they are more expensive here - ever heard of economies of scale? or buying a spanish platform instead of an american one but then putting an american combat system on it?

Even if it is 40% more expensive that also doesnt mean it is a bad thing. Sovereign capability is something that, once lost, will never come back again. And i think it is in our interests to keep that going.

My opinion is this is a concerted effort on the Government's behalf to hold ASC to ransom and get a better deal for building the new subs here, but i have no basis for that opinion

Ah more of this bullshit, don't be too concerned about it. Of course they're going to say it's more expensive and it is because our project has never been done here before and maybe if the government f**king planned shit better from the start the project would cost them less now, eg. the Spanish ship design and American combat system you've mentioned is going to cost extra money.

They're are processes that have been put in place now to save money.

Your opinion benny is spot on and one that I and the majority of my colleagues would agree with.

It's just another article to make us look bad. You wait until the first ship gets launched in about a month to six weeks time. The government will come out and tell everybody how they did all this hard work to get the ship in the water and make themselves look good.

Its been a scare campaign so the feds don't look like arseholes when they go for the cheaper option.

Unfortunately they need to look for the low cost option and they are providing this campaign to justify it.

This thing has turned on its head with a few countries now saying they are prepared to work with ASC to the level specified by the government if they win the tender.

With he state of he world economy this is a tender these countries want and now it seems thingd are changing. Hopefully for the better for ASC and SA.

I don't know about that Benny. Alot of us are hopeful this is the case but all along the government have made us employees think otherwise. Who f**king knows how this will work, it's still all rumours and assumptions on if we'll get more work.

This latest news is positive but no one at work is holding their breath.

Hes hoping as well.

Its strange the government spent so long shit cannig ASC with the scare campaign so that the cheaper offshore option would have a smaller political impact. But in doing so alienated SA to a degree and lost plenty of support. I mean shit how could anyone of seen that comimg [emoji15]
