IS/ISIS/Iraq/Syria situation

Post by bennymacca »

Looks like we are going to be back in Iraq again

Not entirely convinced we need to follow the US into every single conflict like we do at the moment.

I agree with you about blindly following the US - like we did into Vietnam and every war since.

On the other hand, we now have Islamic countries agreeing militant extremist Islamic groups need to be opposed and asking for support, which is rather a gain after the usual pattern of total silence that may be worth rewarding. That leaves me a little torn on this occasion...

I agree. This does seem to be different to the last Iraq situation for instance.

What a clusterphuck. US and it's allies have been funding the Syrian rebel movement, of which ISIS was a part of, which allowed them to grow exponentially.

Now we're going to throw in more money and resources to make them go away.

ala Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan vs Russia

We helped to create this bullshit in Iraq so I think we need to be a part of the solution.

The Yanks will never learn ... rebels and terrorists must be pissing themselves on how easily they can get US support before turning on them.

So here we are playing Deputy Dawg and attracted the attention of the fu**wits
If we get hit, our fearless leaders will say "See, told you so" whereas, in reality, it's more like us picking the fight with them by beating our chest with our big brother.
One day we might learn about staying away from some of this bull$hit the Yanks get themselves into.

and all in the meanwhile passing draconian 'anit-terror' legislation.

Raiding 800 homes to charge 2 people was a nice bit of theatre.

The laws were last strengthened after 9/11. The question we have to ask is what has changed since then to warrant the strengthening?

Arguably the Internet laws, and i say arguably, but I don't think they have given us sufficient justification for anything else

The last thing we needed on these shores, the death of an IS supporter at the hands of an Australian Government representative.

Also the last thing we need is the death of an Australian Government Rep at the hands of an IS supporter.

Either way it will make news around the world and the backlash will begin.

This is a video for a game, but it shows what would likely happen once that first nuke gets fired off.
