Back Problem...

Post by The Apostle »

Anyone on here have a back problem???

I've had one for a while now and at best it's a dull pain in my lower back (that's slightly off centre to the right) and at worst my whole back locks up. I went to a Physiotherapist for a while but that didn't seem to work. I've been to Chiropractor now for about 2 months and that seems to be working. I've had x-rays taken and have found out that I have "lumbarisation of the sacrum"...

PM me if you want contact details of a very good acupuncturist, traditional old Chinese man that also has modern medical training, very very good.

Yep, I started having back issues in 98. Worked out I've got scoliosis of the spine, meaning I've got three distinct kinks in what should be a straight spine. Also means that if I run constantly I'm compressing the spine and making it even worse.

I've also got a crook sacro illiac joint on the left (pretty much where the pelvis joins the back).

At one stage it go so bad when i played footy that i couldn't put my jocks and socks on in the morning, until 15 minutes after i got up and eased my back into motion again.

Now that I've stopped footy, it's much easier to cope with.

So i've been going to Chriopractors since about 2000. I'm now at a manageable level where I only have to go once a month. The real thing is to get your core strength up.

The more your muscles in your front work, the less the spine has to utilise the muscles around it, relieving back pain. It took me ages to work this out!!

I also undertook several courses of prolotherapy. This involves putting calcium or sucrose injections into the spine (not spinal column) and sacro illiac to assist in shoring up the ligaments in your back (the ones that stretched due to my disease). It's all helped. So much so that I had xrays in 2000 and comparative xrays in 2009 and it showed no degeneration of the condition.

So yeh, you need a good chiro. Accupuncture and physio wont fix that at all.

Ask your chiro if they've heard of prolotherapy, it might assist.

Having had a back injury similar to yourself TA for the past 6 years, I have finally been able to manage it and now can nearly do everything i did before. When i first hurt my back i was seeing a chiro, physio and accupunturist once a week (for about 8 weeks). The injury improved to a point but only when i did Pilates did it really drastically improve. FYI my injury is something i need to manage daily and will for the rest of my life. But i thoroughly recommend Pilates, from the pilates you strengthen your core muscles and it provides support for the spine and eases pressure. That and a good anti inflam and you should end up much more comfortable
