Australia v Romania Friendly

Post by Jim05 »

Played in Malaga, Spain
HT
1-1
Outplayed by the Romanian's for the first 35 minutes and they deservedly took the lead.
Socceroos played some nice football in the final 10 minutes and Wilkshire fired home from the spot in the 45th minute.
Great pass by Holland to Brosque in the box that led to the penalty.
Our defense looks a little shaky, Cornthwaite looks lost at times.

Cornthwaite scores from a goal mouth scramble
Australia 2-1 up after 52
Still cant understand why Lucas Neill is playing, he is suspended for the next WC qualifier plus we already know how crap he is, why dont we give another kid a run at the back?

Terrible defending again by Williams, needless foul should have been a penalty but ref gives a fee kick.
Great freek kick
3-2 Romania

Romania win 3-2
Good hitout against a higher ranked opponent, some positives but also plenty of negatives.
Very poor opening 20 minutes then we dominated for most of the second half but still looked fragile at the back.
Last 20 minutes was very poor aswell.
Defence is a real concern, we give opponents too many chances and switch off too often

I have grave concerns we're not going to make Rio.
Particularly if our defence is not up to scratch.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Yes defence is ordinary.
The next 2 qualifiers are the key, if we cant beat the likes of Oman at home we dont deserve to go to Rio.
Ive already started making plans so im going regardless but it would be twice as good if the Socceroos are there
