When the rowers are on course, it's amusing to see all those people riding bikes along the bank in the background. Are they coaches and are they wired to radios? Why are these bike riders there?

I could break the rowing world record given a very strong breeze.

I think those are coaches, at least I seem to recall hearing that a while back and I've never seen a major meet without bike riders keeping pace.

They are the coaches, coaches generally follow their crew in dinghy's in training so bikes is their next best vantage point whilst racing. Don't know about the radios but it wouldn't suprise if they were in communication with the coxswain.

Three races in a row we have started out slowly, and flown home late, but too little too late. The races have been won by teams going hard early. Seems our tactics are very poor and it's costing us

I suspect the people who row the hardest and fastest over the journey generally come first over the line. This would be my advice to rowers if I was the coach.

This is what I love about the Olympics, all of a sudden we are all experts on everything. I was watching the gymnastics and had an opinion, watching the rowing had an opinion, watching badminton had an opinion - never did a tumble, never sat on a boat, cant remember hitting a shuttle cock but I am now an expert :D

Funny you mention that. I work at a swimming centre where we have a decent swimming club the coach of the club has coached at international level, had had olympic swimmers and was head coach of the saudi arabia national team

He was saying the Australian tactics have been shocking at the olympics and the current head coach is not a great swimming tactian, more of a motivator etc etc.

My response, shouldnt they just be diving in the pool and swimming the quickest time they possibly can.

Didnt impress the coach to much with my analyitcal analaysis!
