Can't believe Roy Emerson hasn't been mentioned.
Held the Grand Slam Singles record (12 from 15 finals) before Sampras broke it.
Outstanding doubles record as well.

Re: Greatest Male Tennis Player Of All Time
Federer for sure, he's the only player to have played atleast 5 grand slam title matchs at each of the grand slam tournaments. He held the number 1 ranking a record amount of weeks, he has also won a record 16 grand slams. Nadal has beaten him more times but 14 of there matches have been played on clay with Nadal arguably being the best clay court player ever. On other courts federer has a 7-5 record against nadal.

I asked my dad about Emerson, as he remembered that era of tennis.
He said that a lot of the top players joined the professional circuit in Emerson's era, thereby meaning the level of competition wasn't as good when Emerson won his numerous Grand Slam singles titles.

You mean like Central winning all their flags after the Crows and Port entered the AFL?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Yeah that's a fair point to put his record into context.
Did beat Rod Laver though in a couple of finals (before Laver turned pro).
Laver in turn defeated Emerson in 3 of the 4 GS finals in Laver's first GS year of 1962.
So I think worth mentioning, but not quite amongst the absolute best.

Federer best I've seen. Lendl was great but couldn't win the coveted Wimbledon title.
