Tonic Water V Diet Tonic Water

Post by Lunchcutter »

Hey, can anyone help me with the difference between diet tonic and normal tonic water.. i just realised i bought a 1.25 litre diet tonic and am now thinking WTF .. what calories are in tonic water that requires them to make a diet version? surely that's like diet soda water :?:

I don't know why but tonic water has calories and soda water is the one you want to get if you just want fizzy water

I got caught out once too with tonic water thinking it was like normal water

I googled it...

10% of your RDI of Carbs in "regular tonic water", 0% in the diet alternative.

No other difference as far as I can see.

I've been drinking approximately 20% diet tonic mixed with 60% gin (Bombay blue saphire or Gordon's) and 20% ice with lime juice for years......nothing wrong with diet tonic

Tonic water traditionally contained Quinine, and some sugar to offset the bitterness.
Here are the details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonic_Water
[ I am a little concerned about the total safety of artificial sweeteners though, as I am about artificial flavours and colours, and some approved preservatives.]
