Does anyone know much about high levels of Tri-Glyceride? What foods/drinks should be avoided and what is best for lowering levels?

Isn't that sugar related? My old man had high levels and stopped drinking a litre of coke each day at work and it was all sorted.

Have you seen your doctor?
My cholesterol was through the roof and the cause was mainly genetic so even if I cut all fat out of my diet I would still likely have a problem
So I am on Lipitor which took my levels down to acceptable and that's how I manage it. I will be on them for my whole life probably.

Yes, took the body in for a long over-due service because I had felt crap for about two months. My Tri-Glyceride level came back at 9.4 where anything over 5 is extreme and high risk, I have a month to drag it back or the tablets might be the option, only thing is once I'm on them, that's it.

I drink sh!tloads of it, I've cut that out immediately, and beer.

Sh!!t. 9.5! I was about 7.5.
I feel for you mate. For me, I just accepted the genetics and decided a daily tablet was better than a heart attack. My dad is on Lipitor too. It's just how our bodies are wired.
I maintain a pretty good diet and don't eat much fast food or sugar.

Yeah, I was pretty devastated yesterday but have now accepted I have to change a lot of things, I went out and brought heaps of health food yesterday afternoon and began working on it straight away, I have a 5 and an 8 year old, I don't want them to not have a dad.

I tried looking through some of them yesterday but they send me on a wild goose chase. I'm simly after do's and don'ts. Thanks for the link though.

Maybe change your butter to something like the Flora one which treats cholesterol, and cut down on oils or use Canola oil instead.

Not using margarine at all, not cooking in oil either, a drip of olive oil if absolutely necessary.

Foods To Avoid for high triglycerides
Diet for high triglycerides
-Consume less food rich in saturated fats. Avoid coconut oil, palm oil, palm kernel oil, food made with margarines, coffee whiteners and nondairy creamers made with these oils, butter, cream, sour cream, whole milk, cheeses made from whole milk, etc.
-Use unsaturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatsin moderation. Moderately use foods made in canola oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, peanut oil, margarines, mayonnaise, etc.
-Reduce intake of sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, jam, jelly, preserves, honey, syrup, molasses, pies, candy, cakes, cookies, pastries, colas, fruit drinks, soft drinks and punches. Sugar in our food goes rapidly to your blood. When there is excess sugar in blood, the liver uses it to make more triglyceride. Use complex carbohydrates like whole breads, rice, potatoes and cereals.
-Increase dietary fiber intake like brown rice, whole grains, lentils/legumes, beans, vegetables and fruits.

i will find out for you, i work at the Aquadome in Elizabeth as well as the pools we also have a very large Health Club. Im a membership service officer but have alot of chats to the personal trainers etc etc.

reminds me of when i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes,
massive shock to the system, was hell worried how it would effect my lifestyle n sprting n what i could eat
its been just over 2 years now and im used to it
hate it with a passion but have no choice so has become second nature

My 15 year old son is a type 1 mate, there seems to be a lot of similarities in what we should be eating. At least the whole house will end up eating healthier now.
