Nah it's reflection that the commentators think we are tuned in to listen to them instead of appreciating what's on the screen
If I want to be entertained I'd watched a movie/comedy, listen to music. I don't watch sport to be entertained by an individual I cant see. I want to be entertained by those I can see exhibiting their skills.
Same goes for the footy commentators who think its aBouT them, too!

Personally i dont mind humorous commentators
The ones that irk me the most are the ones who try and captain from the commentators booth
" I would have an extra slip, I would have my mid on straighter, the captain should be ..."
Its fine to state any of the above or similar- but not on and on and on and on and on and on and on ...
