This.

Ex-league players don't go over and start punching on with spectators because they accused him of eating all the pies

Well if he crossed any one of the 4 untouchable areas - Race, religion, sexuality or family it’s pretty simple what you do. The spectator will be removed, the opposition club will support and internally suspend. You will then play for the next 9 weeks as opposed to throwing hands with a reptile.

It’s crazy to think that there were 3 of these incidents across SA on the one weekend.

Who’d want to be the old volunteer Ground Marshall. I’ve done it a couple of times this year and it can be an uncomfortable position to fill.

For the record I have no idea what the bloke said to him and everyone has their tipping point so I do get what you and Shrek are saying/asking

They said on the news that the spectator got a lifeban from playing. Is that correct?

Yeah definitely not condoning his actions or defending him but i guess anyone can snap if they're having a bad day.

Too bad Pembroke feel like their above having to provide MDO's, this could've potentially been avoided.

The spectator hasn't been banned for life - he can play anywhere he wants, however Adelaide Footy League won't accept his registration

With all due respect, and isn't a crack at you personally.. but that's a ******* stupid comment!

I'm sick of hearing crap about MDO's and the influence they could / should have on the crowd (or blame for not) to be honest. Aside from the fact it's a volunteer role, you're talking about managing an entire oval over the match - doesn't matter where you are, odds are someone is saying or doing something stupid elsewhere.

This incident was on the far wing - what impact / influence / insight would a MDO have had that this was going to occur?

Maybe I'm just triggered from my own MDO experiences haha, but it's so frustrating.

Yeah, agree completely here. Clearly the clown in the crowd was gonna be amped up no matter what, imagine a poor volunteer getting clocked instead of the Scotch player.

MDOs need to do the footy stuff and that's it, if the AdelFL want security, then they can cough up for it

You realise this just means the clubs end up paying for it right?

Don't think matches need security - look how many games are played over the season compared to incident.. I'm just saying as a MDO you can't be everywhere at once.

I've done MDO some games where all i do is constantly walk laps because umpires have a complaint about different parts of the ground.. good for my step count, not so good for my temper

Go to point A - complaints at point B.. go to point B - complaints about point C.. etc etc etc.

Agree no need to waste money on security for every game of the year.

Potentially however security at Saturday night games could be an option where it is likelier that members of the crowd have had an entire day to get on the piss. Even attending SANFL games for 20 years you could feel the slight differences in atmosphere and crowd behavior from a night game vs a saturday arvo game. However the question could be asked what are security really going to do, if it was Weslo they are horrendous.

Not sure how it's stupid, when the rules and regs says it's part of their role but ok

If this guy was carrying on like a peanut all night (and potentially the same guy did the same thing playing us the week before) then yes, the MDO needs to go over and tell the supporter to pull his head in.

I didnt suggest that they needed to break up the scuffle

You’re assuming he was carrying on all night.
You’re insinuating the MDO should have been positioned on the far wing.

Yeah MDO’s role is to keep the crowd in check - but it’s a ******* big oval.. this was far side, two blokes.. on face value there is nothing to indicate a potential incident.. you make it sound like they should’ve just known.

Sounds to me like you just hate on Pembroke.

100%%%%%

Have performed the MDO a couple of times at its just a constant risk assessment.

Yeah you walk laps of the oval but like you said 2 blokes on the outer wing, very likely to have stopped talking rubbish when they saw the MDO walking past. Its extremely likely the MDO decided they were extremely low risk so positioned themselves in high traffic areas like around a bar etc.

No way you can expect one volunteer to be on top of everything that happens around a football ground. Even when you get to Grand Finals with paid security there is still trouble.

I dont have a lot of faith in MDOs
They watch a lot of football and do a job at breaks
I doubt peanuts would even listen to them
Its better if the President, or senior member of the club, goes and says something

I think whats being insinuated is that Pembroke didn't even have a MDO at all. They never do! So maybe a MDO could have wandered over there and had a quiet word to them and asked them to chill out. Maybe not. But if you don't even have one at all, like they never do, then it's poor form on their part. I'm also happy to hate on Pembroke, because I can't stand them. Bunch of entitled w*nkers

Well done to Henley today, far too good in all 3 grades. Clearly not a Div 3 club and we wish you well in your Div 2 journey in 2025 if everything goes as expected. Thanks to all the lads who came in for a drink after the game, a great culture your A grade coach has installed. We had a crack in the 1s, but were just outclassed whenever we got within reach

Hey Hope Valley Folks,
What's the wash up for number 19 Nobes from Saturday? He was playing very well up until what looked like a leg/ankle injury. Didn't look good from the sidelines.

He's a trooper, he'll be back next week. 8)

We wish!

Broken, requiring surgery, won't see him again this year. :(

Bugger, that's not going to make the big robot any more mobile. Unlucky for the big unit, he's a fair sight in full flight.

should be a terrific game at Largs North this week North Haven vs Henley, a major event for the whole district i believe. There'll be traffic police at the Birkenhead bridge
