I reckon there used to be a better atmosphere at Adelaide Rams games, only time a song was sung was when the muppets were prompted through the loudspeakers, same happened in Brisbane.

Yeah, could hear a pin drop most of the night. Australian's just aren't aclimatised to football yet. Even when there was over 95k at the MCG when United was here a few years back the crowd made as much noise as what you would get at a conference game in the UK with 1200 people. We are slowly learning though

Agree, have been to an AFL prelim with 80k and the atmosphere was nothing compared to 30k at Upton Park.

It's just a different style of support, if the the Australian style of supporting is very reactive and more a show of appreciation while the European style is to support and lift your players.

As u said it is changing though slowly over time

Yep Jeggo is a friggin nightmare. Has no instinct to take the game on, first pass is always backwards

Doesnt say a lot for the talent coming through the ranks unfortunately.
Is really one dimensional, every now and then he shows a glimpse of something but its all too brief. There is a reason Melbourne didnt try to hard to keep him and why he hasnt attracted any interest from OS yet. Hopefully the gaffer can unlock whats inside as I do believe there is something to work with

with Jeggo I can't fathom how he has got to this point in his career? Probably watched him half a dozen times now (tonight was the first time live) but continually Adelaide have conceded goals where he is involved with a turn over or defensive error (last season v Melb City let an attacker slip by him at a corner kick).

My point is better judges than you or I obviously rate him, both coaches and people outside the club. I'm not a massive fan either but you can't argue with accolades like that.

Actually, yes, you can, he's terrible. They gave him that award because he played more games than any other player in the running for it.

Does the first and second verse of YNWA get sung at the games normally?

It very much had the feel ( on TV anyway ) of the crowd going "Oh, we all know this bit" when it came to the chorus. Left me wondering was it an average attempt or is that how the Poms sing it too?

No wonder the Liverpool players that saw the opening of the Showdown thought the Never Tear us Apart was something pretty special.

As for the remainder of the night you heard more players saying "**** this" and "**** that" through the mike's than you did any singing or atmosphere.

Well, if soccer support was reactionary there'd be plenty of very quiet games. The two sports offer vastly differing amounts of action.

Last nights was impressive to watch some of the footwork of the Liverpool side and also the strength they showed over the ball when in possession and when they were simply taking it off a United player.

Marcello was probably the most naturally skilled player on the field. The difference IMO was the EPL players speed to shut down opponents and their strength on the ball.

Yeah, I tend not to bother with attending friendlies, half the side doesnt even rock up and it is only a practice match after all. The costs bringing these sides here are enormous so unless the government backs it you will always see the general public paying big $ to attend. I think Liverpool got 90% of the gate for the game, very little money will find its way into anyone elses pockets

I didnt go, but for many of my friends who are also Liverpool supporters it was the first ever time they have seen them in the flesh.

That seems like a pretty big deal for a lot of people.

You wouldnt want them coming back next year, but a different team next year would be pretty cool

Unfortunately for Adelaide the bigger clubs wont come here or their demands are that big that no one will foot the bill

I would count Liverpool as a pretty big club.

You might not get a Real Madrid out here, but you could probably get tottenham or someone like that?
