My inner bogan is released for one night only ... saw them last time they were in Adelaide.. top show!

It was 20 years ago today.....Hysteria got a belated burst of sales in Australia (after all, the album was released in 1987) and I was a massive fan of it at the time. However the overproduced monster album has not aged well. I listened to it recently and thought 'why did I listen to this so many times during 1988?'. These days when I reach for a Def Leppard release it is inevitably Pyromania.

The problem with Leppard is that instead of remaking Pyromania, they kept remaking Hysteria (Adrenlize is just terrible). But to repeat the leviathan that was Hysteria is an understandable decision from a business point of view, but the bogans missed out on what Leppard could have been if the drummer stayed in one piece and they didn't all tell us to 'get rocked'.

Hysteria was awesome, but I must admit I haven't listened to it for probably 15 years, will have a flashback moment tonight and see if I agree with ya Reberta.

It might be different live Permstance. But if you chuck on the disc it sounds horribly dated today.

This one got me going back to the album and listening to it again. It was always one of my favorite albums in high school and with seven singles released in Australia from it (I think only Michael Jackson's "Bad", with eight singles, beats this), it seemed to forever have legs.

Still think it stands up okay today. "Animal" probably sums up the album best for me - harder rock edged with catchy riffs. Wasn't ever a huge fan of "Love Bites", but was surprised "Armageddon It" wasn't more of a hit in Australia. Not an album I'm ashamed to listen to at all! Agree with REB to a degree, in that it has dated a bit, but still holds up okay.

Def Leppard were and probably still are one of my favourite bands, although I admit to not listening to them much in recent times - still they have a new album comming out - "Songs of the Sparkle Lounge", so its probably worth a go!

I actually have it in my car CD changer right now! I was motivated to pull it out after seeing a special on VH1 of the making of the album. I still think it holds up well. CK rated "Animal" and "Armageddin it" as the standouts and I agree. I also repeat play "Hysteria", "Run riot", "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Love Bites". I wore the tape out back in 1988.

I do agree with REB however re "Pyromania" and "Adrenalize". Pyromania is a great album and Adrenalize is only just OK, there was only 1 track I wanted to re-listen to recently.

They released a great CD around the 1993 called "Retro Active", a collection of previously unreleased material and the hit of the time "Two Steps Behind". It's noteworthy because of the lack of production when compared to Hysteria and Adrenalize. It's well worth checking out by any die-hard fans out there.
